Printing

Below are some of are common questions about printing

Direct to Film or DTF is a process that transfers prints onto fabric or other substrates using a heat-press mechanism.  Unlike the DTG method, which only works on cotton fabrics, the Printer DTF method can work on cotton and poly blends and much more.

As the name suggests, a direct-to-film printer allows you to print a design on a film and transfer it directly to the intended surface, such as fabric. The key reason why the printer DTF is gaining prominence is the freedom it gives you to choose almost any surface for printing.

The DTF printer technology can allow you to print easily on cotton, polyester, synthetic, or silk without any trouble. Plus, DTF printers can work on both dark and white fabric without any need to press on expensive A & B paper.

The Direct-to-Film Printer Films

A DTF printer uses PET films, which differ from those used in screen printing. PET films are approximately 0.75mm thick, offering superior transferring characteristics. These films are commonly referred to as DTF Transfer Films in the market. There are two types of PET films based on temperature: cold-peel films and hot-peel films.

Software for DTF Printer

Software is a crucial component of DTF printers, influencing color performance, ink print characteristics, and final output quality. Specialized RIP software is required for DTF printing to handle white and CMYK colors effectively. This software governs color profiling, drop sizes, ink levels, and other critical factors that contribute to print quality.

Hot-Melt Adhesive Powder

Direct-to-Film printing powder is a white granular adhesive material that binds the colored pigments from the printer to the surface being printed. Various grades of DTF hot-melt adhesive powder are available, categorized by micron size, to meet specific printing needs.

DTF Printer Inks

The inks used in DTF printing are specialized pigments available in Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black, and White. White ink forms the foundation of the print, while the colored pigments bring the design to life on the film.

Curing Oven

A curing oven is a small industrial device used to melt the hot-melt adhesive powder on the transfer film, preparing it for application.

Heat Press Machine

The heat press machine transfers the printed images from the DTF film onto the desired surface or fabric. It can also be used to melt the adhesive powder on the DTF film.

  • No Pretreatment Required: DTF printing eliminates the need for fabric pretreatment, simplifying the process and saving time.
  • Works on Almost Any Material: Whether it’s cotton, polyester, blends, nylon, or leather, DTF printing can be used on a wide variety of materials and fabrics.
  • Soft and Natural Feel: The material retains a soft and slight hand feel after pressing, ensuring comfort and quality.
  • Excellent Wash Resistance: DTF prints exhibit superior durability, maintaining their quality even after multiple washes.
  • Quicker and Easier Process: Compared to other printing methods, such as Direct-to-Garment (DTG), DTF printing is faster and less tedious, making it an efficient choice for custom printing.
